Before getting into the content of today’s post some may note that my explanation of Polis may sound like Chesterton’s Subsidiarity. It is not. Here’s why.1
Three Polis for the Costal kings under the sky,
Seven for the Barron lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the President on his dark throne
In the Land of Columbia where the Shadows lie.
One Polis to rule them all, One Polis to find them,
One Polis to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Columbia where the Shadows lie.
- Polis Verse, lost to the ages, but recently uncovered in the grave of Benjamin Franklin’s Apprentice
While some may argue that today’s quote should have been used on One Polis to Rule Them All, I will disagree. For, you see, the hand of Tyranny grows heavier, and the Eye of Sauron focuses more precisely, as the Empire grows weaker.
After all, what need has the Tyrant to oppress his own people when he can trample on the rights of distant lands?
However, eventually the lack of virtue within leadership comes home to roost domestically, as the example the leader sets will also set the agenda within the ruling Polis. This will, in time, filer down to the other Polis’s over which they rule.
This was sped up by them breaking up competing, lower Polis. I won’t repeat how they did so, feel free to ask if desired.
This led to the state we are today, with no Polis for the average American living within the borders of America. To repeat from A People, a Polis, this is because we don’t have:
Cities of people made up by blood ties who….
recognize themselves as having a those ties in common and….
are self governing.
Unfortunately for us, there are others within our borders who DO have a Polis. And no, I do not mean those that I listed off in the other post.
I mean the group of Somalian immigrants that elected Ilhan Omar. Some excerpts from the speech to her Polis.
"The US government will do what we want, nothing else. They must follow our orders. That is how we safeguard the interest of Somalia."
"We live in the US, pay taxes in the US and have a real voice. The US is a country where one of your daughters is in Congress to represent your interests."
"For as long as I am in the US Congress, Somalia will never be in danger, its waters will not be stolen by Ethiopia or others."
Other examples, an oldie, the Rooftop Koreans.
If you think this is a new issue, I remind you this is back in the 90’s. The Rodney King Riots, where these Koreans were the ones that held the peace. You think “China Town” isn’t a Polis, with it’s own laws, it’s own rules?
What about the Cartels?
How much money do you think it takes to buy votes? How much drugs moved? How much human trafficking for the purposed we don’t want to think of, or dig into? The materialists in my audience can write it off as the cartels buying influence with sick perversion. The spiritualists with demonic influence. Still, how many Polis are controlled by the Cartels in the South West?
How far do they reach beyond the South West?
All these people are movers and shakers. They bargain and make things happen behind the scenes.
They know it has to stay that way, at least for now, because DC says so.
For now.
Because a doddering old fool,
Or those that control him,
Say they must.
But….
You look overseas…
And, my oh my…
The times, they are a changing. The Empire, dear readers, keeps insisting that it climbs higher.
As if it will fly away on wings of glory.
But all that awaits below is asphalt.2
“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
- Bilbo Baggins The Lord of The Rings
Subsidiarity - “The political concept that functions should be done at the lowest level of competency possible.” I understand Chesterton, living in the UK, can believe that this could function on an Island easily transversed by car or train in a relatively short time, and with a limited demographic at the time (if you ignore foreign holdings and the limited foreign citizenry). Our country, however, is none of those things. It requires a different mental framework entirely, as we have, from our outset, entirely different nationalities, a vast geographic area, acted as an empire fairly quickly from the start, and has undergone drastic demographic changes both in it’s history, and since the time of his writing on the subject. As such, I’ve gotten tired of people putting forth the theory as a viable one. It’s not, as far as I can tell.
This post, more than most, I encourage you to listen to the music. It’s not my normal taste, but highly appropriate to what the USSA seems Hell Bent on doing.
